Did you know that Father’s Day is a celebration that began in the early twentieth century, specifically to compliment Mother’s Day? It actually took a long time to make this day official.
While Mother’s Day was met with enthusiasm, Father’s Day was merely a joke to most. However, over time, people began to accept it with as much regard as they do for Mother’s Day. It is celebrated all over the world – and San Mateo County is no exception…
For 8 years and running, the Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County has held its annual picnic for fathers and their families. Affectionately called, “Dad & Me @ the Park.”

Bring Dad along June 19th for kite building and flying, games, prizes, face painting, arts and crafts, a barbecue lunch and fatherhood awards at Coyote Point Park in San Mateo County. The event runs from 11 am – 3 pm.
The San Mateo County Fatherhood Collaborative’s mission? “To increase the awareness of the value of fathers and other significant male caregivers and the role they play in their children’s lives.”
Another great event to attend this Father’s Day is the Moonstock Benefit at Cameron’s in Half Moon Bay. Not only is it going to be a day full of entertainment including tons of live music, art displays, and barbecue, but it also benefits the boys and girls club.
The iconic image of a child and father flying a kite in a Pacifica park, or playing ball in the backyard of a beautiful Montara Home is a lot more realistic than it may sound.
